Bakalot, Pakistan

Bakalot, Pakistan was devastated in the earthquake. There are refugees that have had no source of clean water other than what is brought in by tankers for months. There is a high mountain stream nearby, but the water was not suitable for drinking. The Water Security Corp. "Discovery" water purification system was brought to the site by Al-Khidmat Foundation, a Pakistani relief organization. Water is gravity fed from the stream to the system which then purifies the water for the local population.

Sabana San Juan, Dominican Republic

The village of Sabana San Juan has a population of about 300 people and is located in the mountains. The villagers had to travel 5 miles to reach the nearest source of drinkable water. There is a spring that looks more like a swamp near the village. The water from this spring is contaminated by herbicides, pesticides, and animal waste. In spite of the contamination, many people used the water. The Discovery water filtration and purification system was delivered an installed by Erik Zalkin of Hermandad, a humanitarian organization. Since there is no electricity, solar panels were installed to power the pump. Now the villagers enjoy safe, clean drinking water and are trained to maintain the system.

Kendala, Northern Iraq

The organization, Concern for Kids, founded by Robert Anderson, has been active in the Kurdish region of Northern Iraq since 1992. They have sponsored many programs, rebuilding schools and clinics, providing disaster relief, and conducting computer training to name a few. Water has been a key focus of their organization. Many villages have contaminated wells and source water which impact the health of the population and prevent stable growth. Concern for Kids partnered with Water Security Corp. and brought a Discovery water purification system to service villages in the area. The system is mounted on a pick up truck with a generator and pump and travels each week from village to village pumping water from the local source in a storage tank to service the village. In the video section of our web site is a video created by the US Army Civil Affairs organizations showing the system in action. Here we have some still photos of the project.
